30A- Final Reflection

1) This class and all of its assignments brought a lot of lessons and stress in this past semester. I enjoyed reading the books and learning other people's stories, but those assignments took a lot of time to complete, since we had to read the whole book. Despite this, I loved the lessons I learned from these individuals and their experiences. I also kind of dreaded the elevator pitch, but I ended up enjoying it way more than I thought.  2) I think that the experience that was the most formative was finding, contacting, and speaking to market experts. It's not easy to find applicable people for your company and get their honest feedback about your idea, but it's essential to the longterm success of your company and how you form your company to fit the market. I was most proud of my elevator pitch and trying to being able to articulate my product idea well. This elevator pitch is important long term, because when looking for jobs, we will have to pitch ourselves, and this...

Opportunity  The biggest issue is that 30 to 40 percent of food is wasted in the United States. A large percentage of waste is due to food spoiling before it can be used. This waste not only  Single individuals struggle with cooking for themselves, becuase products are sold in large portions. A large portion of the struggle that these single individuals face is due to food spoiling before they are able to cook all of the food they have. Single individuals are obviously unable to eat the same amount of food as families. Smaller portioned food would be more cost effective for the single consumer.  The need that needs to be met is single individuals to be able to cook a variety of meals, without an excessive amount of waste.  The  forces  that allow this problem to exist are the lack of single portioned food products available in grocery stores, individuals desiring a variety of foods, and lack of time to prepare meals in advance.  The market I hav...

28A- Your exit strategy

1. My exit plan would to be to sell my company quickly, within the first five years of the company. 2. Although I prefer the idea of a family business, I chose this exit strategy for multiple reasons. My product could very easily and successfully be adapted by other food companies that already sell larger packaged products. Since they already produce food products, they may be able to actually produce this product in a significantly more cost-effective manner. I also think that once my product becomes successful and more popular, larger companies will see this and will want to buy my company out, so they can produce this product in addition to their current product sales and revenue. 3. I don't think that my exit strategy consciously changed anything about my venture, but it definitely changed aspects subconsciously. It changed how I defined my business and the products that I wanted to produce. If I planned to hold on to my business, I would definitely have to branch out beyon...

27A- Reading Reflection #3

Book: Inbound Marketing: Attract, Engage, and Delight Customers Online by Brian Halligan 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? The theme of this book is promoting a product through online marketing platforms in new or creative ways. It discusses ways in which to transform the marketing strategy for you business, in ways that will attract new customers. The book addresses the changes necessary for marketing strategies to succeed in an ever-growing technological society. As our society becomes more reliant on technology, it moves further away from the traditional marketing strategies. Approaching the customer is less popular than ever, but that doesn't mean that marketing is pointless. It just requires more strategic inbound marketing to reach the consumer. This book addresses different ways to reach the customer from a new marketing stand point. It explains recent studies on the best ways to reach consumers: what interests them, the strategies that turn ...

26A- Celebrating Failure

1. Smaller failures are unfortunately and actually fortunately a common part of life and everything venture we make. Failure can make us or break us. If we use the lessons we learn then we can improve and grow. If we push the lessons aside or if we stay down, after getting knocked down by failure, then we won't be able to grow and improve. I have experienced a few small failures in this class, such as not having good time management, so I don't have enough time to complete an assignment or to complete an assignment well. However, some of my biggest failure lessons this semester have come from another class I'm taking. Have you ever had a class that you put extensive time and effort into, but the results are still dismal? I have spent hours working on assignments for this class and have had others edit the papers, but the grades I receive are still disappointing. The other students in the class feel the same way, because the professor tends to be a harsh grader, but I am lea...

25A- What's Next?

Existing Market Step 1: As a company that packages food, we would not actually be producing the food at first. I think that once we move into selling this product in grocery stores, we could also begin producing the food, as well as packaging the food in smaller portions.  Step 2: Both agreed that my company's success would rely on its marketing. They didn't really have any suggestions to improve the business in any ways that aren't being utilized now. They also agreed that the company has a lot of potential for growth with the company's product. One said that a possible next step would to create recipes and cooking products to go with the ingredients.  The plan for my business is to begin on a local level. The company would not actually produce the food products, but would rather have it grown and produced by the farms, and then packaged by the company and sold to grocery stores. After beginning in local grocery stores, we would spread our distribution circle. We ...
